Sat Nam Goddesses,
Join me for a Kundalini New Moon experience practice this Saturday 10:00 am at Buddhi Yoga in La Jolla or online, via livestream, at YourBuddhi.com.
Friday’s New Moon in Aries relates to the warrior planet—Mars, and Aries, the fiery, fighting sign of action. Next week, the largest planet, Jupiter goes retrograde, hugging the external struggle inward. Instead of attracting the mindset of being ready for battle, try to embody being poised for Dharmic Victory.
There will be
The shadow side of a new moon in the fire element and warrior energy? Burnout, and resolve that dissolves into despair and endless Karma. To show you how this might play out if you don’t pay attention, here is a story…
Several years ago, I used to teach yoga at a recovery home for women with children Los Angeles—the children stayed on site with their mothers. One of the mothers, barely 20 years old with two small children and a few months of sobriety, was very upset one day. She told me she couldn’t believe that Child Protective Services (CPS) was making a newer resident wait to be reunited with her young child even though she had already taken such a huge step in sobriety by moving into the facility. She said she felt like the system was broken, then she got really angry—so angry she couldn’t even articulate her thoughts, she just smoked and dropped F bombs. We breathed a little bit (after asking her to put the cigarette down!), and worked with the slogan in recovery “First things First.”
This is a slogan that forces us to look at what is right in front of us. For her it was focusing on getting a year of sobriety and keeping her children. A later step, maybe after a few years of sobriety and steady living situation, could be seeing how she could help improve the “system”—if indeed that was her Dharma. Because without the first step, staying sober, being a good mother to her own children, and creating a stable living situation, there would be no foundation for further impactful, actions, and to be a lighthouse and to raise the vibration of these times.
Goddesses, what are big issues that are getting your blood boiling and making you feel like you need to summon Gerard Butler as King Leonidas in 300 these days? Use that powerful energy and channel it into doing first things first. One way we can do this? Be consistent. One of my children loves a certain gluten free waffle. Making sure I don’t get so distracted by my creative impulses, meditative visions, and working with students that I lose track of the inventory of these waffles—is a first things first act of Love.
Don’t underestimate the power of a simple life, and creating a household that is not just a place to park your car and sleep when you are not doing things that are ‘important,’ and all the miracles that can come with the habit of nurturing the interior spiritual life in a very basic way. From these not-so-radical places, revolutionary acts of Love will flow…and magic can be created.;)
Here are some plants I recommend working with this lunar cycle…
Benzoin ($29)* is always cool to touch, and it the sticky resin of the Styrax tree—she is calming, has been historically used for breathing ailments (thus is a great ally for breathwork!), the Mayans used her to clear bad spirits, and is also base for some perfumes (a woodsy vanilla scent)—put her on your wrists and behind your ears.
I also love using Wild Chamomile ($156)* sourced from Morocco which helps the relationship between the 3rd chakra (Fire) and the 4th chakra (Air)—this will help us turn that warrior energy into Lighthouse energy. Apply at heart and navel, anoint by spiraling up from navel.
Lastly, a Blue Yarrow hydrolat spray ($33)*, is a beautiful ally to refresh your mind and help you remember to remember to take things step by step. In ancient times the warrior Achilles covered his body in her to deflect arrows, the only area he didn’t cover? His heels. 🙂 Spray around you, avoid eyes.
To order, email me here and put in the Subject Line, “Plant Medicine.”
Happy New Moon!
